Private vs. Public Forum: Which One is Better
For Mighty Networks and Circle, they're more akin to selling course or pay to interact type of community. The infrastructure is great and what they offer is also good but you do have to have a community that is willing to pay in order to gain access as you're paying a large monthly sub in order to just create the community itself.

Thanks, I was thinking in that this format would provide a better look for something just starting out as the category layout might give off an air of emptiness.

The 2TonWaffle
I had been hesitant in moving the forums to a new server while using NodeBB but, using Cloudron as the server dashboard/control panel has made it a breeze. Was an easy process of making a backup on the old, importing it on the new and in less than ten minutes everything was back up and running as before.

Instagram Threads is getting video ads
Can't wait till they reach the amount of ads you currently find within Instagram. It's like one ad after 3 or so posts, if even that large as it seems there are ads or promoted posts after a single post.

Cloudflare CEO warns AI and zero-click internet are killing the web's business model
For many people using Google as their search engine are missing out on so much content that is getting scrapped from the websites. They'll stay on the search page as they've been given all (or most) of the information that they were looking for, all without having to click off the page. Even for the publishers and creators trying to use anti-AI scrapping methods, their info is still getting scrapped. For myself, I've been using Qwant as my search engine and I've been seriously looking into Kagi.

What's your opinion on bringing Webrings back?
Do like the thought of forums within a similar niche joining together in a webring. Like the old say "what is old, is new again."

Always enjoyed this little bit in their announcement post back in January. We'll see how long that this will last.

Nice to see an all AMD build. Are you going to be doing a lot of encoding or other high memory tasks for 64GB?

- Paying for hosting monthly or yearly?
Typically you do get some savings on going the yearly route and like Senkusha said, that's one less monthly bill to worry about.- Does your forum use GIPHY in posts?
Wasn't GIPHY going to be charging for access, or has started already.- April Site of the Month Contest - Time to Vote!
Voted :D- Internet forums are disappearing because now it's all Reddit and Discord. And that's worrying.
It comes down to the feeling of conformity in how one feels. Why actively go and seek out the answers or community, when I can get it spoon fed to me. Why should I do any of the work as the algorithm provides the information that I didn't know I was even looking for. This is also being fed with the inclusion of Google's AI search results. Why should a person even have to visit the pesky website when Google scrapes the information and gives it to you within the first few lines of the search result. I don't think forums as they were are going to be continuing going forward, we have to make changes in what these communities are going to be. Providing a place that isn't just posting threads and replies but, maybe a hub or something that fosters an actual community that people can't get from places like Reddit or Discord.- Trump to extend TikTok ban enforcement deadline after China tariffs derail deal
Bytedance or whoever actually owns TikTok has stated that the algorithm is not on the table for sale. So, if lets say Amazon acquires TikTok they'll shove the frontend with something in house and users will get an extremely water down version.- Trump to extend TikTok ban enforcement deadline after China tariffs derail deal
Once these 75 days pass, he'll give them another 75 days.- Site Battle Madness!
- Do you actually need staff when you're starting out?
I ask myself this quite a lot, mostly I'm the only one doing the admin'ing side of things as well as mod work. As my forum isn't near the level that I would need to start looking for staff, I continue to do everything myself.- Reddit is taking over the internet, and this is not okay.
People will stay with Reddit even when it starts to sink into the dark deep. Just like Ravenfreak said, people are lazy and if they even have to click one extra times, they'll drop it without a single thought.- Google: If Searchers Don't Use Your Page In Search It May Be Removed
Problem is that in how Google search page is layed out, relevant links to pages live far below AI results, store results and Reddit results. Your page has to fit against so many behemoths.- Welcome back! Administrata v2.0
Enjoying the new design. Some small issues I've noticed with some missing elements. - 2tonwaffle - 30 Threads + 120 Posts Combo
