I use about 30 add-ons. lol
I think that's what I used. I can't recall, that or Proboards. This was more than 25 years ago. hehe
There were other factors as well. The spam link thing only happened on a forum hosted for "free", like Proboards. I can't recall which one. But not only that, the software they offered was just awful. lol

Way back in 1997, I had a forum, but it had no options. Anyone could login as anyone (you just picked a name and posted). It was a complete fail. I then tried Proboards (crap IMO) and later moved to a self hosted phpBB in like 2000, which was pretty much the only viable choice back then...
I don't find my opinion to be aggressive. It is simply a personal choice. I've been on forums that were "free" hosted, and they lacked features, were hard to navigate, and often had forced ads that detracted from the usage of the site. One time, I clicked a "my account" link on a such forum, and a spam page opened trying to get me to sign up for something. No thanks.
Currently, Call of Duty Black Ops 6, The Finals, and Elder Scrolls On-line :) I haven't played a decent racer in awhile, but I do enjoy the Need for Speed franchise!
I plan on it, yes. Love wrestling! Been getting into AEW now too. :)
