  1. I guess I'm quite fortunate with https://sanctuaryshatteredsun.net in that I don't have any direct competitor in the niche. I have the only forum about this particular game and I also have a direct link to the game creators as I am their community manager (one of, but clearly the best - obvs).
  2. I'll explain. Most, if not everyone here, is running or in other ways involved, in a forum. There are only 24 hours in the day. So why should I come and moderate your forum for you? What are you offering for my time? Money? Other perks? It's totally okay to ask for staff - and I wish you well - but if you want people to take you up on your offer they may wish to know what they will get in return, even if that's just a warm fuzzy feeling.
  3. Incentives?

  6. I've always been a bit of a grump when it comes to off-topic stuff, thinking that it detracts from the actual content and in some way dilutes the quality, so thanks for a great article proposing a different point of view.
  7. Really depends on the quality of the content. I don't think the technology is there to expect true opinionated responses to human questions or discussions. And if it's a bot to send "welcome to the forums" style posts, that's a big no-no to me. It's impersonal and it stinks. It's the same as when I have had a welcome PM from a dummy/bot account. Send it from YOU. Be human, be a person.
  8. I have used phpbb, vBulletin and now xenForo. I try to stick with one type of software as I'm not very technically minded and trying to learn about multiple eco-systems is tough on the old grey matter.

Great to see a familiar face. Welcome!
  11. This will be easily circumvented. Even if they ask for parental consent, most parents will just lie about the age of their children for some peace and quiet.

Hello mate. Good to see you make the leap to the darkside. Erm, lightside. Erm, this side.

  14. Aye, well this is a board about forums. Anyway, it's a moot point and simple semantics. Offline, closed, maintenance, whatever, the inference was obvious.
  15. Perhaps it's less about quantity and more about quality. Well thought out searchable content is better in the long run. I would rather one very good thread than four "what is your pet called" style threads - especially on a niche board.
  16. This is great, Shawn. Many forum admins fall flat when then don't see success in the first couple of months. I have been guilty of this in the past. People need to appreciate that making a forum a success takes time and effort. It's not like it used to be!
  17. Its contextual. With most forums, offline means 'closed'.
  18. By granting the posters admin access.
  19. I'll go first.

This is an interesting idea. I did some reviews on FP but the amount of work required for a (y) was a little off-putting. It would need to offer value, add value, and bring value to the reviewer.
