Creating a welcoming environment
It's always a great feeling when you see a new registered member. So bringing new members into your community is exciting, but making sure they feel at home is key to building long-term engagement. Here are some simple, human-friendly ways to ensure your newcomers feel welcomed and encouraged to participate from the start: 1. Warm welcome messages A personal touch goes a long way! Send a friendly welcome message or greeting when someone new joins. Let them know you’re glad they’re here and offer help if they need it. It’s the first step in making them feel valued. You can use their profile posts to say hi. 2. Introduce them to the community Give newcomers a chance to introduce themselves. Create a dedicated introduction thread or forum where they can share a bit about who they are. It will also encourage interaction with existing members. 3. Highlight key areas of interest New members can sometimes feel lost in a new environment. Guide them toward popular topics or threads they might enjoy based on their interests. Help them find their way into the conversations that matter most to them. Maybe even offer an on boarding guide. 4. Recognize their contributions A little recognition goes a long way. Give shout-outs or badges to new members who participate, even if it’s just a small contribution. It helps them feel seen and appreciated, motivating them to stay engaged. 5. Always be ready for your members Finally, remind your team and veteran members to be approachable and friendly. Sometimes a simple “Hey, welcome to the community!” can make all the difference. Do you have any tips? Feel free to post them below and I'll add them to the list! :)

PS5 Pro
The PS5 Pro has hit the shelves, but not without some controversy. Many gamers are expressing dissatisfaction with its hefty price tag, feeling that the improvements don't justify the cost. While it boasts upgraded hardware and enhanced performance, it's clear that for the price tag it isn't enough. For those who already own a standard PS5, the question is: Will you upgrade? So far, for me the answer seems to be leaning toward “no.” What do you think?

The 2TonWaffle
Good point. I love XenForo for the 3rd party add on market, but damn it can surely get expensive!
-
The 2TonWaffle
Yeah it looks awesome. Especially the drag and drop. That’s some really great feature there that I wish XenForo also had. Although don’t see that happening soon.

The 2TonWaffle
Thanks for sharing! Will you upgrade to IPS v5?

How long have you been managing communities?
Discord’s use is really different from forums. There’s no ability to find any content, unless you use the search that isn’t great either. So there’s a completely different audience for Discord. You can combine Discord with a forum, but I wouldn’t recommend that for obvious reasons - I think. So those that are used to forums, will always prefer forums.

Carnivore Talk
Great community, can definitely personally recommend this one. Thanks for sharing Bob!

How long have you been managing communities?
I'm curious - after being away for five years, how do you feel about the current state of forums compared to back then? Have you noticed any significant changes in user engagement or community dynamics? Do you think forums still hold the same value in online communities, or have other platforms taken their place? I'd love to hear your thoughts on how forums have evolved and what you think the future holds for them.

What do you do to attract visitors and gain traffic?
Unfortunately, many directories in the past made big promises but often delivered little in terms of results. Today, achieving a conversion rate above 1% is considered quite fortunate.
