Forums are not as popular as they once were.
Reflecting on the experience we had on ZetaBoards and InvisionFree, we were somewhat insulated from the wider shifts happening in the online world. Our own decline kicked in around 2010 indeed, and honestly, I think Brandon could see the writing on the wall even before then. That's likely why he ultimately sold out to Tapatalk. Looking back now, from a business perspective, it was probably the smart move. He definitely broke a lot of loyalty in the process—and it stung—but let’s be real: loyalty doesn’t always pay the bills. I get why he made that choice, even if it didn’t sit right with everyone at the time. Cloaked makes a fair point too; the decline might have started outside our own “snowglobe” even sooner than we noticed. Forums were built around a certain community culture and pace that social media and newer platforms just don’t prioritize. The slow shift away from that style probably began long before it became obvious to us.

Sidebars - Yes or No?
I honestly can’t remember exactly when sidebars first became a thing, but I do remember seeing them pop up now and then on old InvisionFree forums. It felt so unusual at the time, yet here we are—now, sidebars are everywhere, and I’m so used to them that it feels odd when a forum doesn’t have one. Of course, they’re not perfect; sometimes sidebars end up cluttered or don’t show us the information we actually need. That’s why I appreciate that here on Administrata, we give members the option to toggle them on or off. Having those little customization options really makes a difference. I've always enjoyed having flexibility as a forum member, and I keep hoping we’ll see even more of that in the future. Imagine being able to drag and drop forums, rearrange widgets, or tweak layouts to make it feel like your own space. I know that’s probably not something most people need—maybe only 5% of users would care to go that deep—but I think it would be a lot of fun for those who want it. Just another way to make the experience feel more personal!

Are you using our mobile app yet?
Hey [uSERGROUP=2]@everyone[/uSERGROUP], Have you tried out Administrata’s mobile app yet? It’s super easy to get started, and the best part is, you don’t even need to go through an app store to download it! Our app runs as a Progressive Web App (PWA) right from your mobile browser. Just follow these quick steps: Open Administrata in your mobile browser. Look for the "Add to Home Screen" option. (On most devices, you’ll find it in your browser’s settings menu.) Tap it, and that’s it! The app will be right on your home screen, ready to go whenever you need. Using our PWA app has a few great advantages: Faster Access: Get to Administrata with a single tap instead of navigating through your browser. Improved Notifications: Stay up-to-date with new posts, messages, and notifications right from your phone. Full Screen Experience: Enjoy a distraction-free, full-screen view of Administrata that feels like a native app. If you haven’t tried it out yet, give it a shot and let us know what you think! And if you need any help setting it up, feel free to ask here. Happy browsing! 😁

Yes, I’m aware of it. Just haven’t been able to resolve it. 🫣 When you start typing, the text reappears. But I’ve got it planned to fix soon.

MEGA pack order for Month of November 1-30
Debashis ken_gitahi Nomad - you are all invited to take part. @Unvarnished is already on his private payroll, so to ensure there is not double payment to Unvarnished, he's not allowed to take part. I realize with the three of you, this may be difficult to complete within a month, so do the best you can, and I'll scout for additional staff members to assist. Once this order has been successfully completed, the same order will be made. Thanks everyone.

Forum Category Naming Process
Personally, I aim to keep these names simple and straightforward while also being mindful of SEO, ensuring they capture what the category is about without overcomplicating it. Clear and direct names make it easier for both members and search engines to understand what each section offers, which is key for discoverability. I prefer to capitalize each word in category/forum titles, even though some people don’t. In my opinion, it creates a more polished and professional look, giving each category name a distinct, structured appearance that stands out. As a rule, I like to keep descriptions to just 1-2 sentences, focusing on clarity and purpose so that users instantly understand the topic and feel invited to participate. In my experience, a concise description can be surprisingly powerful; it not only defines the category but also sets the tone and intention for discussions within that space. If anyone is struggling with category names or descriptions, feel free to share your ideas here! Sometimes an outside perspective can make a huge difference in finding the right words to fit your forum’s vision and voice. We’re here to help brainstorm if you need it! :D

Attachments bug
Attachments have been manually re-attached for the Directory. Except two, since those weren't online, so I'll try again later. Next up will be the articles.

Thanks Bluezone777, I appreciate that. I am working with the developer on improvements, and after some good thorough testing on a dev site, I will likely bring back this feature soon.

Introducing the Administrata Task Hub
I realize I need to provide a bit more context. Unfortunately, the Task system add-on was poorly designed. I’ve spent the last 6-7 hours troubleshooting, but unfortunately, we still haven’t resolved the issue. We lost 274 attachments, some of which were important, while others were not. Somehow, the task add-on took over these attachments, linking them to its own operations - obviously not the behavior it should have. For now, I’ve decided to uninstall the add-on until it either exits beta or is redesigned with better attachment management. However, in doing so, 274 attachments were deleted from the server side. I was able to restore a backup from two days ago, but rebuilding the data hasn't helped, as it’s still not linked with the forum. Recovering these would require going into SQL to look up each individual post, thread, article, directory entry, etc., and manually relinking each attachment - a task that would take days, if not longer. Instead, we’ll accept the loss and move forward. Thankfully, it’s not a major setback; we’ll simply re-upload attachments to key articles, important threads, and directory items. It’s disappointing, as the add-on showed promise for engagement. I hope that one day we can reintroduce it (after thorough testing, of course). I got a bit too excited despite the beta label and should’ve been more cautious, take this as a lesson and don't be a fool like yours truly. ;) Anyway, I’ll archive this thread later this week but wanted to keep you all informed.

There seems to be some issues with this add on. So I'll update this thread once everything has been resolved. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Attachments bug
Just a quick heads-up for everyone: Any attachments in articles, the directory, or posts made before yesterday may not be showing up at the moment. This seems to be linked to our new task feature, so hang tight while we work on a fix. Thanks for your patience! 😊

XenForo 2.4 coming soon?
Well I can’t argue there. Apart from the editor, there isn’t any feature noteworthy coming soon. 3.0 might change that but we’ll have to wait and see.

Weird culture, Japan. I’d love to go there one day. But won’t order a pizza.
