    Morning! :)
  5. This is me doing some personal research. But I'm interested what kind of screen resolution you use? Does anyone still use anything below 1920 x 1080 ?

    Welcome to Administrata nextgen! :)
  10. Why is it that everyone keeps intentionally screwing up their own platform by seeding it with ads? People will just find an alternative that's better/cheaper.

    Congrats! :D
  12. When building or managing a forum, there are certain features that help make it more successful and user-friendly. What are your 5-must-haves for forums?
  13. The following post does not apply to the Administrata Team. ;) You’ve got a moderator team, but they’re not really doing anything. Maybe they were active at first, but now they barely log in, don’t handle reports, and seem generally uninterested. It’s frustrating when you feel like you’re running everything on your own. So, what’s going on, and what can you do about it? [HEADING=2]Figuring out the Problem[/HEADING] Before assuming they’re just lazy, take a step back and look at the situation. Are they burned out? If they’ve been handling too much, they might have checked out without saying anything. I've been there, it happens. Do they actually know what’s expected of them? Some people hesitate to act because they’re unsure of their role. Are they still interested? Priorities change, and some moderators may have just lost interest. Is there even much to moderate? If the community is quiet, they might not feel the need to step in. [HEADING=2]What can I do?[/HEADING] Talk to them. A simple conversation can clear up whether they’re struggling, uninterested, or just unaware of what needs to be done. Create a moderation guide. If they don’t know what their responsibilities are, they’re not going to step up. It often helps to have a staff role table. Give them the right tools. If they don’t have what they need to do their job, they won’t do it. XenForo has a great Moderation Panel add on. Recognize their efforts. If the only time they hear from you is when something’s wrong, they won’t feel motivated. Be grateful and thank them often for their continuous efforts! Know when it’s time to replace them. If someone isn’t contributing and isn’t interested in improving, it’s better to move on. Have you dealt with this before? How did you handle it? Let’s talk about what works and what doesn’t when it comes to managing a moderator team.
  14. Not all communities start with a forum. In fact, plenty of online spaces have grown and thrived without ever using traditional forum software. Some communities evolve within blog comment sections, social media groups, Discord servers, or even wiki discussions. These setups can create different dynamics compared to forums - sometimes more fast-paced, sometimes more tightly knit, sometimes more chaotic. Have you built or been part of a non-forum community? How did interaction work? What were the biggest challenges? Did you eventually add a forum, or was the format enough on its own? Would love to hear your experiences! What worked, what didn’t, and what you think forum-based communities could learn from these alternative setups. :)
  15. Moderators are the backbone of any community. They keep things running smoothly, handle rule enforcement, keep the community spam-free and help set the overall tone of the place. Everyone could be a moderator. But what makes a good moderator? Expectations can vary depending on whether you're a regular member or the admin running the show. So I'd like to hear what your ideal moderator looks like from a member's perspective and an admin's perspective. :D
  16. I agree. AI can definitely be of great assistance. A simple command to ChatGPT gives you plenty of topic ideas. [HEADING=1]"Give me 50 topic ideas for a general chat forum."[/HEADING] Here are 50 topic ideas for a general chat forum: [HEADING=2]Casual & Off-Topic Discussions[/HEADING] What's on your mind right now? [HEADING=2]Forum Community Engagement[/HEADING] Introduce yourself! What brought you to this forum? What’s your favorite thread on this forum? How long have you been part of online forums? Any suggestions to make this community better? A thriving community needs fresh conversations to keep members engaged, and that starts with you, as the admin. If you're struggling to think of something, just ask yourself: What would I enjoy discussing today? So, what's your excuse for not posting topics on your community? 😉

  20. Besides a few phpBB forums at first, I quickly settled on InvisionFree. That was back in 2003. While I was on IF, they came up with their own software called ZetaBoards. I was there until they got bought out by CrapaTalk. I did have a license for IPB since 2011 but once I got familiar with XF since 2015, I’ve been there ever since. Invision v5 is truly amazing, but something just keeps drawing me back to XF.
  21. We've talked before about having an audience to begin with. But there's more! Do you have a community pre-launch checklist? No one wants to go gung ho on anything without careful planning, especially when you're planning to launch a new community. You can't expect to become an instant success just by launching a site. There are several things any admin should do to make a community a success. It will be quite helpful to have a community pre-launch checklist just so you don't forget small details you might overlook. It is important for you as an admin to follow through on the items in your checklist prior to your big launch day. Your community launch and its eventual activity will not necessarily be perfect, but with a list of things to do in place, you can be sure you have covered all the bases, thus avoiding many potential problems. A community pre-launch checklist will contain the items below. The items you'll find below need not be exhaustive since you might come up with things unique to your planned site. Make sure you go over each item and, if possible, make detailed notes of what you have done and what else needs doing for each item in the list. [HEADING=2]Establish Your Identity[/HEADING] A forum should not become a jack of all trades and thus be a master of none. Not only will information and posts coming into your forums become a wildly mixed bunch, but your entire site will also lose its identity. You should establish what your intended forum is for. You should also establish why people should visit and use your site. In line with that, you should also decide on who will be your targeted audience of people is to join your community. You should also put all this in a document for you to follow and to also work as a reminder. Establishing your community's identity will be one of the good places to start while you're still in the planning phase. [HEADING=2]Plan the Dirty Work[/HEADING] This part of your checklist should, of course, be thoroughly detailed. Admins will see this as the part of your community pre-launch checklist that contains all the crazy subheadings of subheadings and so on. There's nothing wrong with putting down all the details in this section since your site's well-oiled first run depends on the things you'll put in here. This part should include the documents you have planned to use. Include the design of your interface in here as well. It will also be very helpful to include your site's skin and who should design and improve it. Include details of costs and work timetables to make sure you're not behind schedule. All hosting requirements should be covered here. This is the part of your community pre-launch checklist where you decide on an otherwise catchy domain name. Make sure you also visit your competitor's site and see what they have and add to your site what they don't have. You should also compose your privacy agreement and terms of use. You should also take measures to secure your forum and server software. You might want to make initial forum rules and sticky the necessary threads. You should also have some sort of base content in place so guests will have a reason to stay and check out your site. Honestly, run it through ChatGPT and you get a check list like below: [HEADING=3]Platform & Hosting[/HEADING] Choose reliable forum software (self-hosted vs. cloud-based). Select a hosting provider that meets your forum's needs. Secure a domain name that is catchy and easy to remember. [HEADING=3]Design & Functionality[/HEADING] Choose or design a forum theme that aligns with your brand. Optimize navigation and layout for usability. Set up categories and subforums logically. [HEADING=3]Security & Policies[/HEADING] Draft a Privacy Policy & Terms of Use. Implement anti-spam measures and CAPTCHA. Ensure SSL certificates and basic security protocols are in place. [HEADING=3]Content & Engagement[/HEADING] Write forum rules and sticky them in key sections. Create starter threads to make the forum look active. Recruit moderators or early contributors to seed discussions. BETA Testing Since you have everything etched out with something like a barebones structure that's already working, it's high time to BETA test all your current work. This is, of course, your pre-launch test to see what bugs you still have to patch up. Smooth the Rough Edges After the BETA test, you should be able to gauge what modifications and additions you need to make. Make all the necessary changes before opening. This is also a good time to decide where and how to advertise your upcoming site. You can either modify or add to any rules or any of the content in your community pre-launch checklist. You then double-check if you’ve got everything on your checklist covered before you launch. Keeping a community pre-launch checklist will help a lot with all the messy details before launching your site. Be sure to add items not mentioned above just to make sure you have everything covered before your big launch. Hope this was a good help to ya.

Happy Valentine's day everyone. I don't celebrate this personally, but I do enjoy seeing stuff about this.
  24. Ah. You must ask yourself, what if? She could've been your wife today. :P Crazy to think how our lives would change if our choices would've been different at the time. Yes, my mind works weird sometimes.
