What are some effective ways to learn how to create a community?

In my view, good ways to learn how to build a community include going to workshops, joining online groups, and reading books about community building. Talking to people who lead successful communities can give you helpful advice. Also, getting involved in existing communities can help you understand how they work and make valuable connections. What resources have you found useful?

That book sounds interesting, I think some of those points have been posted on webmaster sites like Administrata though. But having a tangible book to go back and reference without having to move between tabs on a browser might make things easier for those who are wanting to learn some good tips on creating a community.

I think when it comes to community building, there is nothing better than having spent time as a community member yourself. Watch, see what you both like and don't like, and write down ideas to use later on. Additionally, resources such as ChatGPT can provide excellent ideas on how to navigate specific issues.

Textbooks are probably good depending on what you can find. A lot of leadership principles and community building are parallel to real world management and human resources strategy.

As mentioned above, attending workshops, joining forums and being observant, reading about forums and learning more about what makes a forum successful as well as what makes a forum unsuccessful.

It's an oldie, but probably still a goodie: https://www.managingonlineforums.com/

I used to own the book myself.

Patrick used to visit some admin forums in the past.

There were some blogs that were published that discussed the book as well.
