Have you ever experienced a sudden boost of activity on your forums? How did you adjust to the wave of traffic?

Sure - here and there.

I typically just respond to as much as I can when I can.

I try not to get too excited these days over stuff like this. If folks truly love the community, they'll come back and you'll keep having these boosts :)

But what's important is that you actively respond.

A sudden surge of activity on your forum can happen at any time, and it’s a great opportunity to keep the momentum going by actively responding to current topics and posts.

As long as users enjoy the community and it remains engaged and continues to grow, these bursts of activity will likely become more frequent.

I've only seen significant activity on my board when I sent out a bulk email about new features.

I've had 500+ guests viewing my forum at one point and they were mostly viewing two or three topics about new films. Whether they were bots or humans, I'll never know.

Almost certainly bots.

I regularly send out bulk emails when we have promotions, or updates happening on our community. It has helped give my forum a boost. My new partnership with Twitch streamers has brought in a lot of members aswell.

I figured as much, it was just weird that they were all mostly viewing the same topics. For a second there, I thought my board may have been linked via social media. 😅

I used to, but I stopped doing so because there became few significant things to send updates for and one user threatened to call the cops on me for sending out monthly bulk emails, so I figured others might be annoyed by it too.

Any sensible platform lets users optout of such notifications. If not… maybe time to look at a better platform.

I used CloudFlare Analytics for a short period and couldn't get back into my account for some reason, so I just removed it.

Jcink does allow users to opt out of receiving email notifications from the board. When you register the default setting isn't checked to have these email notifications sent to you unless you do check it. I included the "unsubscribe" link in all bulk emails I sent out and the guy still threatened me, so he didn't want to take the time to log in when he was the one who wanted to be notified via email to receive board updates originally.
