Posting Contests that work and those that fail

What kinds of posting contests actually work, and which ones fail?

I find most "whoever posts the most in x amount of time" contests always fail. They either turn into blatant spamming or they generate so little interest that the winner is one of maybe three entrants. Ones that tend to work are ones that offer reasons to post, such as a make me laugh or a forum quiz type of thing, where there are reasons to engage over and over.

That's interesting! I had no idea really, but it does make sense.

I like forum contests however as Crystal said above most of them tend to get spammy and most lose interest quickly, Intereasting content is what keeps me engaged in any contest.
