When you have freely available content on your forum, would it be fair to charge for exclusive content? Take my forum as an example, I have a forum resources board, would it be fair if I charged users for let's say, themes and extensively built codes?

Well that depends.

But a resource based website could easily be monetized by different levels of data available, with the lowest level being free. Depending on the function of the forum.

But a forum with lets say, just hidden forums or web-based chotski's, I think I would rather just ask for donations.

It’s fair if you’re charging for exclusive themes and codes.

Especially if you already supply custom made themes and codes for free. Custom made themes and scripts could be a way to increase your forum’s revenue.

I think it's fair if you've got certain content like themes or graphics. As for knowledge, I suppose it depends on what you're sharing but I think it should be free. Maybe keep it to where only members can view certain content, but don't outright hide it behind a paywall.

Sams Club gives me multiple snaks every time I go there. They aint losin' any money on me.

Yes, it can be fair to charge for exclusive content, like themes and codes, if they take a lot of work to make. Just make sure users understand what makes the paid content different from the free stuff...
