How many hours do you spend on your website or forum?

Running a forum or website is a lot of work. You could make it your daytime job (if you're lucky to have a lot of income) But how much time do you actually spend on it each week?

Do you find yourself checking in all day long or just once in a while? Is it mostly about managing users, keeping everything updated, or creating new content?

Some things to think about:
  • Daily check-ins: Are you on the site every day, or do you just log in when you need to? What do you usually do when you’re there?
  • Content creation: How often are you creating new posts, threads, or anything else to keep your site fresh?
  • Moderation: How much time do you spend making sure everything’s running smoothly, like handling spam or dealing with issues?
  • User engagement: Do you spend time replying to members, starting discussions, or running events?
  • Technical stuff: Are you fixing bugs, installing updates, or doing other tech-related tasks?
  • Promotion: How much time do you put into promoting your site, whether through ads, social media, or just word of mouth?
Feel free to share - how much time do you spend on your site each week, and where do you focus most of your energy?

If I'm at home, I check my forum multiple times an hour unless I have something going on keeping me from my forum. If I'm in public, I still tend to check it occasionally via my mobile device. I mostly check my forum to see if anyone has posted and needs help. I try to engage when possible. About 30%+ posts on my board are mine, so it's evident that I am active in my community.

I have had to schedule my time to effectively manage my online projects. Currently in stands at 8 blogs and 4 forums. I also have a couple of post exchanges running too. I would say I probably spend two hours per day keeping them going. It's a lot of time spent.

I've been trying to at least invest a few hours a day on each of my forums.

I'll login and post a few new topics, reply to any new posts, welcome new members, and moderate if needed.

On the weekends, I get outdoors and do my hiking/biking/outdoor stuff. So, I don't post as much. But I think that's important to have other things to do and take a slight break here and there.

In my younger days, I practically lived on my forums.

Heh.

I'm at 9 forums, 6 of them I'm serious about.

4 blogs.

Upcoming 2 podcasts

A YouTube channel and multiple daily post social media channels.

I'm also the community manager at Copyblogger.

As long as I can get 6 hours of sleep each night! :D

All in combination of an 8 hour day job? 🙃

I just started being co-founder of a website yesterday so it's really hard to gauge how many hours I'll continuously spend on it however, the last 2 days I've been spending over 6 hours of the forum. I've been trying to come up with edits, improvements, posts, threads, event ideas etc. I'm hoping that by the time the forum is relaunched (in December) I'll be spending about 4 hours a day on the forum. I may not be replying or posting the entire time but I will be working on things behind the scenes to make sure everything is ready to go.
