WordPress has been around for a long time, and over the years, alternatives like Ghost, Drupal, Wix, Blogger, Joomla, and Hugo have emerged.

But what WordPress alternatives have you tried and actually liked?”

Are there any particular blogging platforms that you feel could give WordPress a run for its money?” 😉

I prefer Joomla to Wordpress myself. I find the ACP easier to navigate and it's much easier to install plugins and post articles. I've tried using Drupal in the past but I didn't really care for it. Never tried any of the other platforms mentioned but I've tried php Nuke in the past and liked it as well but I think the project is dead.

I've got to be honest - I've never found anything that offers quite as much as WordPress does. Especially for a free software.

Joomla is a good alternative, but I wouldn't use it personally unless there was some specific reason WordPress wasn't appropriate - the customisation and longevity of WordPress, coupled with the millions of sites using it and thousands of developers actively making plugins etc for it makes it the no.1 option in my eyes. The website run by the charity I work for uses WordPress as it's base, although is heavily customised to the point you wouldn't really realise it was a WP site - this is what I love so much about the software.

For myself I personally use Ghost. Over the years I've grown tired of Wordpress and and the bloat that eventually weighs it down as you add plugin after plugin. I wanted to just get back to the simple process of creating the content and not having to worry about updating a gazillion plugins to have that flashy site.

Not too say that Wordpress is bad but, you can easily get swayed into the black-hole of got to have this plugin and that one and next year the site needs yet another one. Eventually all of it becomes too much. Give me the simple approach and let me focus on the work.
