Life’s better without a plan.
Administration
As an admin, your staff looks (up) to you for direction and motivation. If you’re inactive or seem disengaged, it can send the wrong message to your team. They might start to question their roles or feel like their contributions don’t matter. Over time, this can lead to staff burnout or even a full-on loss of interest. I'm not perfect, I've been guilty to this too!

But your activity sets the tone for the entire team. A quick check-in, an update on the forum’s goals, or even just acknowledging their efforts can go a long way toward keeping your staff motivated. Some people need confirmation as humans. Without this leadership, the passion and drive that make your community thrive can start to fade.

Here’s why staying active is so important:
  • You need to set the example: If you’re engaged, your team will feel inspired to follow suit.
  • You need to build the trust: When staff feel supported and valued, they’re more likely to stay committed.
  • You need clear communication: Regular updates help your team understand their roles and how they contribute to the bigger picture.
  • You need to maintain the morale: A connected admin fosters a positive environment where staff feel energized and proud to contribute.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed or unsure about how to stay engaged, don’t be afraid to lean on your team. Open communication can be a powerful motivator for everyone.

Let’s discuss: How do you, as admins, stay motivated and keep your team engaged? And for staff members - what do you need from your admin to feel supported and energized?

Looking forward to hearing your insights! :giggle:

How do you, as admins, stay motivated and keep your team engaged?
I don't have a team as I'm flying solo and have been for years, so I suppose this question does not apply to me right now.

And for staff members - what do you need from your admin to feel supported and energized?
I feel like I need administrators who are active, supportive, and all-around care for their community and staff involved. Administrators who are careless about their community or staff members aren't setting a good example and it feels as if they created the forum to blow their own steam or as a popularity contest. Dedication to many aspects of the forum can set a great tone as an administrator to your team members, it shows you are willing to go the distance to make your community thrive and stay alive.

My AAF forum just awarded me with Addicted because I went over 1,000 posts. It looks like I'm playing my part here :D

Usually, I retain a lot of posts. There is only one person that I had to struggle to maintain a post count on my forum.

He knows who he is :P

Thank you so much for sharing such thoughtful insights! You're absolutely right, leadership isn't just about making decisions but also about being present, setting an example, and fostering a sense of belonging. Your words really resonated with me, especially the part about how small gestures like check-ins or recognizing efforts can make a huge difference. It's easy to underestimate the impact of those little moments, but they truly matter.

I think as admins, we sometimes get so caught up in managing everything behind the scenes that we forget how much our presence can influence the overall vibe. Your reminder about clear communication and setting the tone for morale really hit home for me. It’s something I’ll be keeping in mind moving forward, thank you for that!

I'm a motormouth when it comes to forums.

I can post quite a bit if I set my mind to it. :D
